Ideias (não) originais / (not so) original stories

Sometimes movie stories are based in others tails. But other times, they are a huge success has an original concept. Right! Just see this example and post your opinion.

English:
Being a good guy never compensates.
Today I´ve receive a youtube notification reporting me that two clips of mine were a violation to the rights of the Paramount Pictures Corp. Next time something would be report, my acount would be deleted.

Ok, the notice about companies rights violation are there, next to the upload botton. But has a person that decided to create a blog to talk about movies and it´s favourites parts, I never seen it has a violation. The intention was to put people´s interest back in the Indiana Jones movies and receive feedback of their impressions at the same time the next movie would be publicised. Me, an infractor?

Let´s analize this. I feel like such a small part of this like a tinny invisible grain of beach sand. The internet and Youtube in particular, are places where you can discover, even without looking, a lot of really agressive material. Also agressive people, that uses a disturbed languadge. Youtube seems NOT TO have anything else than videos recorded from Tv programming.

I taped my now erased 5 Indiana Jones clips back in 1988, or so... I know: rights. They never run out when you´re dealling with big sharks. But 20 years ago... let it go, man! It´s free publicity.

The internet is a free world resorce that needs some law intervention, in intention to prevent or radicate criminal atitudes from it. But removing a 3 seconds movie clip with this tipe of function, is like saing it´s a crime to quote a phrase from a book or quote the words of a poet. It´s not a crime.

Parece-me inteligente.
.

1- This guy screamed loudly in front of a camera back in the 70´s and got instant sucess. What have him made since?

2- OK, I liked Phenomenon inspite of the poor, extreamly poor portuguese skills that the character suposely learns with perfection (he should take - not had given- some lessons from Forest Whitaker). But since Look who´s Talking plus the sequels what have this actor done that shows talent? Specially one so big that allows him to own an airplaine fleet and an airport in his home. Not such talent!
Não me parece proporcional!

3- An idious pirate CGI always dark movie in three poison doses. Urk!!!
Urr!!!

What´s your opinion? Maybe they´re great people, i don´t know them. But are they really superstars that diserve such status or am I just a "J" starting name letter hater?

MY IMPRESSIONS: - AS MINHAS IMPRESSÕES:

What most impresses me about this movie is the different treatment given to men and women actors.

First of all, thousands of women had to work hard for months for one to get the role of Scarlett. Opposite to this, both Gable and Howard didn’t want to play their characters and were pursuit to it with money and other attraction deals. (such has divorce and movie producer deals).

The second thing that impresses me is how bad is Leslie Howard portraits Ashley Wilkes. They should have let him go. He his reported to go on set not knowing his lines and was too old for the part (the actor was born in 1893).

The third thing impressing me is the irony of having the actress whose character dies first, still alive today. Olivia De Havilland played Melanie and is 91 years-old with birthday on July 1st.

Leslie Howard died in 1943, during the 2nd WW. The plane he was on left from Lisbon and was shot down over the Bay of Biscay. Gable and Vivian died in the 1960´s, from a heart and tuberculosis disease respectively.

I enjoyed India Wilkes’s actress work and was sad to know she only made this movie and retired.

Maybe due to this experience: this was not an easy movie to make. Lot’s of confusion, discussion and financial difficulties with the demission of it first director and a reported bad atmosphere. It is said that Vivian Leigh was permanently mistreated by second director Victor Flemming. He had no desire to be nice and call treat her like a bitch, having once said: “Take the script and stick it up your royal British ass”.

Until it went to the editing table, the movie sequence was still a finish product to be resolved. Failure was such a fear that the movie was premiere with a random audience. Not even 3 seconds had pass for them to be crying of happiness. The public buzzed loudly when David O Selznick’s name appeared in the credits. The novel author’s name appeared immediately after: Margaret Michel. In this moment the crowd yelled, stood up on the seat and completely buffered the opening music theme.

I wish I was there to see it!

English Version:
What if Júlia Roberts, Nicole Kidman, Matl Demon, Brad Pitt and Robin Williams had always played the same type role?

That’s what seems to have happened to Meg Ryan, Eddy Murphy e Jim Carey. These three actors achieve success and made their career out of one type character and never diversify in almost two decades of movie business.

Meg Ryan the eternal romantic comedy actress, stayed stuck to her image to the point of not being able to change her appearance too much. She stayed trapped in the same hair style and eye make up.
Eddy Murphy reached his fame tanks to his funny looks, his talking fast and of course, his famous laughter.
Jim Carey became a star manly due to his over-acting abilities, his exaggerated gestures and expressions and ability to talk no-sense.

All of them are near their 50´s now. With their youth and beauty over the fence seemed to come the end of success movies. Not even for a second I doubt this people skills and talents but the truth is they brought it to themselves. By not diversifying their talents, they accustomed a certain type of audience to like them only in one type character.

That mistake was not made by Júlia Roberts, Nicole Kidman, Matl Demon, Brad Pitt and Robin Williams.

Julia went from a romantic Pretty Woman prostitute to the Pelican Brief investigator, passing on a Conspiracy Theory and becoming Miss Erin Brocknovich. Soon she will be appearing with Tom Hanks in an interesting movie about a peculiar senator.

The same can be said about Nicole Kidman professional resumée. She was a brunet for The Hours and a ghost from another century in The Others.

Matt Damon was able to run away from stereotype roles, not following his Ben Affleck friend steps. He went by Oceans 13, 13, Syriana and is now in an Bourne trilogy. No one had much faith in him has an action actor but he came and prove talent can do anything. Thankfully, I must say, because I’m so tired of the action-type stereotype!

Brad Pitt: if he stayed on romantic roles, today he would be erased also. But he was death in Meet Joe Black, a vampire in The Interview, he went Seven Years on Tibete and had Se7en sins and a Fight Club. Well, another vast résumé.

And Robin Williams, the king of comedy! If he had stay only in that type role, he wouldn’t had seen the World According to Garp, or had form The Dead Poets Society or given the Good Morning Vietnam line!

.

And this is why is so sad the three first mentioned never diversified there body work. Meg went Against the Ropes, but was a flop. Eddy went on singing in Dream Girls and I presume did his part well and Jim was severely criticised by his role in Truman’s Show, that I enjoyed and welcomed. See it your self:

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls is the name of the new Indy adventure. Let’s hope is a success! Skulls were also a main characteristic of Indy II, the worse movie made about the character. I hope Spielberg, that loves blondes, realizes that brunets are the way to go! The female protagonist is going to be blonde (shit!). I hope this is not a condemning characterist to movie failure, hi, hi, hi!

You can read more about it in the Indiana Jones Official site (http://www.indianajones.com). Visit the “That’s a Wrap” video, see pictures of actress Karen Allen (Marion) again in her character and many more. We will see how it goes on May 22st!
.
